The former Real Madrid shot-stopper Antonio Adan was full of praise for Lionel Messi after a mesmerizing display by the Argentine superstar against Real Betis on Sunday night La Liga football.

Messi inspired Barcelona second-half destructive performance, scoring twice and assisting another for Luis Suarez as Ernesto Valverde’s side annihilate Real Betis by a 5-0 win at Estadio Benito Villamarin.

The win means Barcelona leads the La Liga table with 11 points to second place Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid youth graduate Antonio Adan was left in astonishment, having felt his team-mates might have had Messi under control throughout the game.

“It’s spectacular. In the first half, he did not appear. he seemed to be casually walking around” the 30-year-old told Cadena Ser.
“But he had four chances, scored two goals and gave two assists. He makes football look sweeter.”

Real Betis vice-president Lorenzo Serra Ferrer was full of praise for Leo and he felt it had been a privilege to witness Messi at his brilliant best.

“Messi deserves that because it is a show, what he has done in the second half,” he said.

“Not only in attack but claiming balls in their own half of the field.

“His humility and ability make him bigger and the public of the Villamarin has been able to appreciate the extraordinary player that is Leo Messi.”

Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde was among the host of people glowing for Lionel Messi display against Real Betis, Lionel Messi is the “best player there is and there will be” said head coach Ernesto Valverde as he heaped praise on the Barcelona star.

“You have to enjoy him,” Valverde said of Messi. “We have been able to live his era.

“I have suffered because of him and I know what that is like. Now I can enjoy it.

“It is like a concert to watch him play every day. He is the best player there is and there will be.”

“For us, it won’t be a boring league,” Valverde told reporters. “We will continue trying to win our matches, without speculating about the future.

“There are still a lot of matches left. But, every game we win brings us closer.”
