Lionel Messi misses penalty against Espanyol

The Argentina international has struggled with penalties this season, and his latest miss against Espanyol contributed to the Catalan side’s first defeat since August, The Argentine superstar has now scored on only three of his six penalty-kick attempts this season for Barcelona, missing more spot kicks than every other La Liga player during the 2017-18 campaign.

Lionel Messi has played a total number of 107 penalties for Barcelona and Argentina, scoring 82 of them and missing 25, he has 76.64% conversion rate.

Lionel Messi is probably the best soccer player of all time no doubt, and one of the reasons for being the best is because he never stops trying to improve himself and he is always eager to learn new things. Even though he’s a world-class passer, dribbler, and finisher, Messi told a Russian outlet his goal now is to be a better penalty-taker.

“I want to be perfect and yet there are some parts of the game I have to improve to reach the maximum level. Which part? Penalties, I have to practice them more.”

Messi famously missed his penalty against Chile in the Copa America Centenario final shootout. He also missed against Chelsea in a Champions League semifinal in 2012.

The Argentine maestro also failed to convert from the spot against Iceland in 2018 Russia World Cup.
